I watched the new 'Dune' movie and actually prefer the 1984 version
Three years ago, my book club in Denver read Frank Herbert's 'Dune' and we all agreed it was a tough book to adapt. Last week, I finally saw the new movie everyone loves. Honestly, it left me cold. The visuals are amazing, sure, but it feels so slow and serious. It misses the weird, operatic feeling of the book. The 1984 version with Sting, for all its flaws, captured that strange tone better for me. It felt more like the messy, grand universe I imagined. The new one is beautiful but empty. Has anyone else felt this way, or am I totally alone on this?

Get the 1984 version on a double feature night. The contrast makes both movies more interesting. You're not wrong about the weirdness factor.

Actually the 1984 version is from 1976. It's the one with Peter Cushing. The 1994 version is the one with Robert De Niro. Both are worth watching for sure.

Actually I always thought the 1984 one was the De Niro version, so this totally resets my timeline. Thanks @elizabeth_jackson, I'm gonna have to track down that Peter Cushing one now.
