Just realized The Shining movie and book are almost two different stories
I was talking to my buddy Mike at the job site last week while we were pouring a walkway in Beaverton. He's a big Stephen King guy and he pointed out that the movie version of The Shining barely touches on the hotel's backstory or the whole topiary animal thing from the book. I always thought the movie was scarier with Jack Nicholson going crazy, but Mike said the book makes you feel sorry for Jack because he's actually trying to be a good dad. That hit me different because I'd never thought about it that way before. Now I'm wondering if a movie that stays true to the book would even work on screen or if changes are just part of the deal. Has anyone else changed their mind about a book adaptation after talking to someone who saw it from the other side?

Man that Mike sounds like a good guy to have around. It's wild how a single conversation can flip your whole view of a story you thought you knew.

Did he ever mention why he kept quiet about it for so long?
