My wife and I argued for two hours about the 'Dune' movie ending
We both read the book and saw the new film. I thought the movie's ending, stopping where it did, was a smart choice. She said it cut out too much of Paul's inner struggle from the book. This turned into a whole thing about what you can leave out in an adaptation. We looked up articles and everything. It took us like two hours to just agree we both liked it for different reasons. Anyone else get into a long debate over a change from the book?

The original book spends a lot of time inside Paul's head around that ending, almost the whole last chapter is him wrestling with the jihad he's about to start. By cutting that, the movie actually gives the audience more credit to figure out Paul isn't a pure hero anymore on our own. It makes his final stare into the camera way more unsettling because we're not told what to feel, we just get the look. My friend and I argued a bit about whether that makes him more like a villain or just a sad kid caught up in destiny, but we both agreed the movie's version hits harder even if it loses some of the book's careful explaining.
