Reading the book first ruined the show for me

I used to always read the book before watching the adaptation. Thought that was the right way. But after reading The Peripheral and then watching the show, I spent the whole first episode waiting for stuff that never happened. Comparing every scene to the book just made me miss what the show was doing on its own. Anybody else switch up their order and have it work better?

Chapter 49 in the book had me waiting for a scene that just... never came.

Man I've been waiting for pizza delivery since Tuesday, I know how that feels. At least the book won't leave me hangry.

Oh come on. It's one scene in one chapter. Not every promise in a book has to pay off. Sometimes you just gotta move on.
