Seeing my book club ditch the read for the streaming series felt wrong
We picked a dense novel to discuss, but most just watched the faster paced show instead. Now I'm stuck between calling them out for skipping the source material or letting it slide since they engaged with the story. Where do you draw the line on adaptation shortcuts being okay?

Adaptations turn book clubs into watch parties, which misses the point.

My book club read Dune last year before the movie. We spent an hour just talking about the politics in the book. The movie club just talked about the visuals and the snacks. It becomes a social thing, which is fine, but it's not the same. You lose the deep talk about the actual story.
