That friend's rant about 'The Hobbit' made me see pacing differently

My buddy Mike went off last Friday about the 3 movie split for The Hobbit. Said it killed the momentum. I always defended it, loved the extra scenes. Then I rewatched the animated 1977 version. 77 minutes. Crammed but tight. It felt like the book did when I first read it. Now I get his point. More time isn't always better. Has anyone else flipped sides on a longer adaptation after seeing the shorter cut?
