The Golden Compass movie still bugs me 17 years later
Tbh I finally got around to rewatching the 2007 Golden Compass film after reading the book again, and it took me three sittings to get through it because I kept pausing to check what they cut. The movie crammed a 400 page plot into 113 minutes and somehow made Lyra's journey feel like a tourism ad for a fake arctic town. Has anyone else found a book adaptation that works better if you pretend you never read the source material?

That movie was a mess and I get the frustration. They took a story with real weight and turned it into a shiny, hollow thing. Every time I think about what they did to the ending, I just shake my head. It sucks because the book deserves better, plain and simple. I still get annoyed when someone brings it up and I haven't read the book in years.
