The movie version of The Hobbit made me re-read the book twice

I watched the first Hobbit movie last month after ignoring it for years because I thought it would butcher the tone. The whole time I kept thinking, why are there dwarves swimming in barrels and fighting orcs that never happened in the book? It pushed me to dig out my old paperback copy and reread it, and honestly I enjoyed the book even more this time around because the movie made me notice all the quiet moments it skipped. Now I'm curious if anyone else has had an adaptation make them appreciate the original more, or does it usually do the opposite for you?

...so my buddy Mark watched the Dune movie and then went out and bought all six books, he's been carrying them around like a bible ever since. He said the movie made him realize how much world-building the book just casually drops in a sentence here and there. Now he won't shut up about sandworms at every dinner we have, but at least he's reading again.
