A park ranger's 3-minute rant made me ditch my $200 inflatable mattress

Last month at Big Bend I was airing up my fancy mattress when a ranger walked by and laughed. Said he's pulled more of those out of the desert than he can count, every single one with a slow leak from the cheap valve glue. Told me to just get a foam pad and learn to sleep like a burrito. I thought he was nuts, but my buddy had a regular closed cell pad and he slept fine while I woke up flat on the ground at 2am. I'm not fully converted yet, but I tested his theory with a $25 pad from Academy on my last trip to Colorado and honestly, I slept better. Has anyone else had a professional talk you out of gear that the internet swore by?
