Cheap coleman lantern vs the fancy one, night 3 settled it

I took both my old dual fuel Coleman and a new battery LED lantern I got for $45 on a 5 day trip in Shenandoah last month. First two nights the LED was fine, bright and all, but the third night the batteries started dimming and I had no spares. The Coleman cranked up with a few pumps and lit the whole picnic table in that orange glow. That was the moment I realized I should have just packed the fuel bottle and left the batteries at home. Has anyone else dumped battery lights for fuel ones after a real trip failure?
