Finally weighed my whole pack instead of guessing, and one cheap fix cut 3 pounds
I always eyeballed my pack weight and assumed it was fine, but after a rough 8 mile slog on the Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas last month my shoulders were wrecked. So I dumped everything on the kitchen scale and totaled it up at 34 pounds for a 2 night trip. The big surprise was my cook kit and food bag, which came in way heavier than I figured. I swapped the old stainless pot for a cheap aluminum one, moved my food into a single ziplock instead of 4 little bags, and left the camp shoes at home. That got me down to 31 pounds without buying anything new except the pot. Anyone else weigh their stuff piece by piece and get shocked by what the real numbers look like?
