Hot take: that $80 solar lantern was a total waste, but my $20 headlamp is bulletproof

Bought a fancy solar lantern last spring for backpacking in the Pecos, it died after 4 trips and the charging port corroded. Meanwhile my cheap headlamp from a gas station in Roswell has survived rain, drops, and a bear scare. Am I wrong for thinking solar gear is just marketing hype, or did I just pick a bad brand?
