Just realized my sleeping bag's temp rating assumes I'm wearing almost nothing, not layering up

I was reading the fine print on my 15 degree bag last week, the Kelty one I've had since 2019. It says the rating is based on a 'standard man' wearing one base layer and a hat, nothing else. But when I camp, I'm usually in long johns, a fleece layer, a puffy jacket, and thick socks. That's probably 10 to 15 extra degrees of warmth right there. So my 15 degree bag is really a 25 or 30 degree bag for me. That changes how I pack for spring trips in the Sierras. Am I reading this right, or is that rating system actually useless for most people? Has anyone else tested their bag in real cold after reading the specs? What's your actual comfort number compared to the label?
