My $60 tent repair kit turned a blowout into a breeze

Last fall I took my 6 year old tent out to Big Sur and the pole sleeve ripped right at the seam on the second night. I had tossed a cheap $60 repair kit into my pack last minute, mostly because the store clerk talked me into it. It came with a patch, some adhesive, and a little pole splint, and honestly I thought it was a waste of money until that moment. The patch held for the rest of the trip, and the pole fix got me through three more nights of coastal wind. I used to just tape things and hope, but that kit saved me from packing up and heading home early. Has anyone else had a repair kit actually save a trip, or do you just carry duct tape like I used to?

Isn't it funny how the stuff we buy on a whim ends up being the thing that saves the whole trip, kind of like how that random umbrella in your car finally pays off on the one day you forget to check the weather? Take this with a grain of salt, but I've found the real value in those kits is just the peace of mind they buy you, even if you never use them.
