My buddy the park ranger told me I've been treating my tent wrong for 10 years

Was out at Shenandoah last weekend with my friend Dave who works there. He saw me packing up my tent and just shook his head. Told me I should never roll a tent up the same way twice because it wears out the same crease spots every time. Said to stuff it loose in a sack instead. I've been rolling my tent tight like a sleeping bag since I was a kid. Makes sense when you think about it but nobody ever told me. Has anyone else heard this or is Dave just being extra?

My buddy who worked at an outfitter in the whites always told me to stuff everything loose too. I still folded my footprint the same way for years and it started getting these weird permanent creases that actually let water pool in the same spot every time it rained heavy. Finally tossed it and got a new one and now I just cram that thing in the bottom of the bag crumpled up. Dave sounds like he knows his stuff honestly.

OH for REAL?? Dave might be onto something. I've been rolling my tent the SAME way for YEARS and now I'm panicking.
