My Coleman stove died on the first night of a 5-day Boundary Waters trip. The debate: should I have brought a backup stove or just a repair kit?

Hot take: Bring the backup. Robert is right about packing a backup for the important stuff, but a stove in the Boundary Waters is past important, it's a safety thing. A repair kit is useless if the main part is totally broken, and you can't exactly run to the store. A tiny backup stove weighs nothing and saves the whole trip. I'd never go out there without two ways to boil water.

Always pack a backup for the important stuff.

Learned that the hard way last year. My only copy of a project got corrupted right before a deadline. Now I keep three copies in different places.
