My old sleeping pad setup was a total disaster compared to now

Back in 2019 I used this cheap foam pad from Walmart that was maybe a half inch thick. Woke up every time on the cold ground at Lake Tahoe in June. Finally switched to an insulated inflatable pad last summer and honestly it's like sleeping on my bed at home. Has anyone else gone through three different sleeping pads before finding one that actually works?

Cheap foam pads work fine if you've got trail karma.

Oh man, you're totally right @finleyl55 - trail karma is a real thing. I went through three pads myself before finding the right one. Started with a foam pad that was basically a yoga mat, then tried a cheap inflatable that leaked air all night. Finally settled on a thicker self-inflating model that actually keeps me warm and comfortable. That Lake Tahoe trip you mentioned takes me back - I had a similar experience at Yosemite where I woke up shivering on the ground. Once you upgrade, it's hard to go back.
