Overheard a ranger at Yellowstone talking about tent stakes...

I was hiking near the campground last weekend and caught this ranger telling a group that most people use cheap stakes that bend in rocky soil. He said just spend $15 on some titanium ones and you won't wake up with your tent in a ditch. Made me think about the three times I've had to re-pitch after a windy night. Anyone else ever had a tent collapse because of bad stakes?

Swapped to those lightweight aluminum hook stakes after my tent nearly flew into a river in Utah. Haven't had a single one bend since, even in that hard packed stuff they call "soil" out west.

Gotta say I used to swear by those cheap steel stakes, thought aluminum was too soft and would just bend. But after fighting with bent steel ones for years, I finally tried a set of those hook stakes last season and yeah, total game changer. They actually hold better in packed ground and I haven't had a single one fail on me either.
