Pro tip: My Coleman lantern went from a sputtering mess to a steady glow in under a minute.

I cleaned the generator tube with a pin after it sat for a season, and the difference was instant. Has anyone else found a simple fix that saved a piece of gear from the junk pile?

Oh man, that's the best feeling. I swear half my camping gear is held together by similar little hacks.

Wait, half your gear? I mean, my old tent pole has a bit of duct tape on it, but that's a whole other level. Are we talking like, a stove held together with a paperclip and hope? Or a sleeping bag zipper that only works if you wiggle it just right? That's kind of amazing and also a little scary.

Honestly, does stuff held together with tape and hope actually work though? I’ve seen tents collapse in a light breeze because someone’s repair job gave out at 2am. I’d rather buy a new pole than lay there all night staring at the ceiling of my tent. Duct tape is fine for a quick fix on the trail, but counting on it long term is just asking for trouble.
