PSA: I was wrong about needing a 0 degree bag for Colorado in October.
I froze my butt off near Breckenridge last fall with my 20 degree bag, even with a liner, because a freak storm dropped temps to 15F. Now I'm looking at a proper 0 degree bag, but the price tags are wild. What's a good budget option that actually holds up?

Assume we're talking about heating costs. Adding a sweater helps, but it doesn't fix a drafty window. The issue is usually the house, not the wardrobe.

Mountain Hardwear's Keystone 0 degree is usually under 250 bucks on sale and it's slept me warm down to about 5 degrees in a tent with just a long sleeve shirt on. I had a similar problem with a 20 degree bag in the Winds last September, thought liners would save me but nope, cold air just finds its way in. The Keystone has a pretty good draft collar and the zipper baffle actually works, not like those cheap bags where you feel the cold seeping through the zipper track all night. If you can catch a REI garage sale or an end of season clearance, the Marmot Trestles 0 is another solid pick for around 180, but it's heavier and packs down bigger. Losing a few ounces isn't worth freezing though, so go with the cheaper heavier option if that's what fits your budget.
