Tent leak? Duct tape works.
Had a small tear in the rainfly. Taped it up and stayed dry all weekend.

Seal a leak with duct tape and call it a day, that's my kind of repair job. It's like the universal band-aid for gear, right up there with zip ties. My old camping buddy used to say if you can't duct it, you're out of luck, and he wasn't wrong. I've seen that stuff hold together everything from tents to backpack straps in a pinch. Honestly, half my gear probably has more tape than original material by now.

Duct tape might seem handy, but it often lets you down when you need it most. That temporary tent patch will peel right off in a downpour, leaving you soaked. Backpack straps mended with tape just fray again after a few miles of hiking. The sticky glue leaves a nasty residue that's impossible to clean off later. In my experience, it's a quick fix that usually makes things worse over time.

Impossible to clean off" seems a bit much. It's just tape residue. A little rubbing alcohol or even some hand sanitizer takes it right off. Sure, it might not be a forever fix, but if it gets you through a weekend trip dry, that's a win. Not every piece of gear needs a perfect, professional repair. Sometimes a quick fix is all you're going for.
