Tried an REI tent pad at Big Bend last month and it changed my setup
I usually just throw my tent on the dirt but last month at Big Bend National Park I used the tent pad at site 18 and it was way better. Kept everything level and dry even after a random rainstorm at 2am. Has anyone else noticed a big difference using those pads?

Calling a tent pad a "game changer" feels like a stretch man. It's just a flat spot with some gravel.

I get what you're saying about calling a tent pad a "game changer" being a stretch. A buddy of mine spent a rainy night on a sloped rock patch in the Smokies and woke up with his sleeping bag soaked because his tent slid six inches downhill. After that trip, he swore by gravel pads even if they felt basic, because anything flat that keeps your tent from turning into a slip-n-slide is worth a little hype.
