A customer told me my seams were too wide

I mean, they were right. I was leaving like a 1/16 inch gap thinking it was fine. After that job in Austin I started butting them tighter and using a seaming iron at a lower temp to avoid melting the backing.

You ever have that moment where you realize you've been doing something dumb for way too long? My buddy Mike was laying carpet for this high-end house and he thought his seams were perfect. Turns out he was leaving gaps too, like a credit card width or something. The homeowner's wife walked the lines with a flashlight and pointed out every single one. He spent the whole next day re-doing four rooms because he had to pull it all back up. Now he's crazy about using a roller and checking every seam twice before he even thinks about cutting. It's wild how something so small can make you look like an amateur.

Love that for Mike, @ivanjones. Nothing like a flashlight to humble a guy.
