A homeowner in Phoenix called me out for my seams last month
I was installing some medium pile carpet in a living room and I thought my seams were pretty tight. The lady walked over, pointed at a spot near the door, and said "that line is gonna open up in 6 months." I looked closer and sure enough, the edges were barely butting together. Now I spend an extra 10 minutes per seam using a knee kicker to really mash those edges before I trim. Has anyone else had a customer call them out on something small like that?

Customers notice everything now with all the DIY videos online. That lady probably saved you from a callback in the dead of summer. A good kicker and patience saves way more time than a rushed seam ever does.

@troy_palmer76 you make a good point about DIY videos. But do you think those videos actually cause more callbacks in the long run? People see a quick fix video and think they can do everything themselves, then mess up something simple that takes twice as long to fix.

My buddy tried fixing his own AC after watching a 5 minute video and ended up flooding his whole basement. Took three pros to sort out what was basically a simple drain line clog he made 10x worse. Those videos give people just enough confidence to turn a fifty buck fix into a five hundred dollar headache.
