Almost laid carpet over a wet subfloor yesterday

I was starting a bedroom job and felt dampness under the old padding. If I hadn't checked, mold could have grown and ruined the new carpet fast. How often do you test for moisture before an install?

Oh man, you caught a huge one there. I helped a friend redo a room and the floor felt kinda soft... turned out a slow leak from an old pipe made the whole corner squishy. That smell would have been awful. I always check now, it just saves so much trouble later.

Totally, @barnes.mary, I once found a leak that made my floor spongy, so I always check now too.
