Just learned why carpet seams split in high-traffic areas

Was talking to an old-timer at the supply house yesterday and he said most seam splits happen because installers don't let the carpet relax enough before cutting. He told me he waits at least 24 hours after unrolling before he even trims anything. Has anyone else noticed a difference giving it more time to settle?

That "24 hours" thing is actually more about humidity than the carpet relaxing.

Actually the "24 hours" also gives the underlayment tile time to fully settle and release any trapped air pockets underneath. If you rush it and walk on it too soon you'll get those squishy spots that never really flatten out.
