My seam iron died mid-job on a Tuesday, had to finish a 40 yard hallway with a clothes iron

I was about halfway through a stretch of 12 foot wide commercial carpet in a law office downtown when my rothenberger just quit. No smoke, no noise, just dead. I had 3 seams left to weld and the customer was coming by at 4. Grabbed the closest thing from the break room, a $15 steam iron with a cracked sole plate. Taped the steam holes shut with aluminum tape and set it to wool. It actually held the tape down fine, just had to go slower and press harder. Finished the last seam at 3:45 and it looked clean, but I swear my wrist is still sore today. Anyone else ever have to improvise a heat source in a pinch? What did you use?
