Stumbled on a stat that carpet holds 4x its weight in dirt before it looks dirty
I was reading some trade journal at the supply house last Tuesday and could not believe that fact. Has anyone else found random numbers that completely changed how you talk to customers about maintenance?

...and that's exactly how it goes with so many things around the house, you know? Like, you think something's clean just because it looks clean, but underneath it's a whole different story. I started noticing it with air filters too - they look fine from the front, but the back side is caked with dust. Same with gutters, you can't see the clog from the ground until water is spilling over the side. It's like we're all walking around with this surface-level view of stuff, and the really important stuff is hiding in plain sight. Makes me wonder what else is like that in a house that we just don't think about until it's too late.

Kinda feel like this is a bit dramatic, man. I mean, yeah, air filters get dirty, but you just swap em out every few months and it's fine. Gutters too - you can literally see leaves piling up if you look from a ladder, not exactly "hiding in plain sight" like some deep mystery. Half the stuff people worry about in houses is just normal wear and tear that you fix when it breaks. Not saying ignore it, but caked on dust on the back of a filter ain't exactly the same as a secret mold colony growing in your walls.
