The homeowner who watched me work for 3 hours without saying a word

Back in March I was doing a full bedroom install in a split level over in Maplewood. The guy was home, sat in the corner on a folding chair, just watching me stretch and trim the whole time. Not a single question, no small talk, nothing. When I finished he just nodded, handed me a cold soda, and said "you earned that one" then paid me in cash plus a $50 tip. I'll never forget that silence, it was weird but honestly the biggest compliment I've gotten in 12 years of doing this. Anyone else ever had a client watch the whole job without chatting? What do you make of it?
