Used to nail tack strips in seconds, now I take 5 minutes per doorway and it pays off

For 12 years I just smacked tack strips down with a hammer, never checked the concrete underneath. Last spring I did a hallway in Tacoma and the pins bent sideways on a slab that had settled. The carpet rippled within a month and the homeowner called me back. Now I always drill pilot holes and use masonry nails with a slight angle, especially near door frames. Takes longer but I haven't had one call-back since. Any of you guys run into weird slab issues that ruined a tack strip job?
