Was reading an old trade journal from 1987 and found out carpet seams used to be sealed with hot wax
Found this stat that said back in the 80s, over 60% of installers used wax instead of seam tape, and I just can't imagine dragging a hot wax pot around a living room like that, has anyone else run into this old-school method on a job?

Honestly who cares if it's a fire hazard or whatever, people smoked inside houses back then and nobody died. I've ripped up plenty of old carpet that had what looked like dried glue along the seams and it was probably wax, but it's not like it was dripping all over the place. You just heat it enough to stay workable and it hardens again. Kinda overblown if you ask me.

Agree completely. I've pulled up carpet in a few old houses and never had any issues with that seam stuff, just a little heat and it's fine, people panic over nothing.
