Random guy at a car auction changed my mind about all-cash offers

I was at a small auction lot near Tacoma last Saturday and overheard this older fella telling a dealer he'd write a check for $42k on the spot if they'd skip the financing paperwork. It got me thinking, I always assumed cash buyers only mattered for flips or distress sales, but this guy was just tired of bank delays. Has anyone else seen a simple all-cash offer seal a deal that should've gone to a higher bidder?
