Everyone hypes up the old school Slip 'N Slides from the 80s, but I tracked down one on eBay for $150 and it was a total bust. The plastic was brittle and it tore on the second run, plus the ground wasn't as slick as I remembered. Honestly, the new $30 one from Walmart works way better and doesn't leave you with scraped elbows. Anyone else get burned paying too much for a retro toy?

Pulled out the old Star Wars snowspeeder and was shocked how well the clutch power holds up even after two decades. The brittle brown pieces from that era are definitely cracking though, lost like 3 plates just trying to rebuild. I switched over to collecting modular buildings around 2018 and those newer sets have way better color consistency. Anyone else notice how the older gray pieces get that weird yellow tint over time or is it just my storage?

A busted snap-together model kit changed my mind about glue

I always thought any model kit with glue was a scam. Why bother when snap-together exists? Then my nephew brought over a Revell '57 Chevy from Goodwill that had loose axles and a hood that wouldn't stay shut. I grabbed some Testors tube glue just to fix it, and next thing I know I built the whole thing with glue. The fit was tighter, no gaps, and it didn't fall apart when he played with it. Now I get why old hobby guys swear by the stuff. Did any of you switch from one building style to another later on?

I know everyone loves those old Fisher Price record players from the 70s and 80s. But I had one bad week with mine and I still get annoyed thinking about it. Second day the rubber on the turntable started slipping and the records would slow down then speed up. Sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks on helium. Third day the needle arm just broke off completely. I sat there with a little plastic knob in my hand and a pile of warped records. My dad tried to fix it with super glue and a paperclip but it made everything worse. So that week I learned old toys are often more nostalgic than actually fun. Anyone else had a vintage toy that totally let you down?

I found my old Super Soaker CPS 2000 from 1996 in my parents' basement last weekend. Took it out to the backyard for a test run and was shocked how weak the stream was compared to what I remember. Warning: old Lite-Brite bulbs can get scary hot after 20 minutes

I was in my parents basement last Saturday digging through old bins and found my Lite-Brite from 1987. Plugged it in to see if it still worked and after about 20 minutes the plastic around the bulb holes started getting soft and bendy. I pulled the plug quick but a couple of the pegs had already warped. I guess those original bulbs run way hotter than the LED ones they sell now. Has anyone else had old light-up toys get dangerously hot like that?

My little brother told me I was playing with my G.I. Joes wrong for 10 years because I never used the rubber bands to hold their weapons.

I was cleaning out my mom's attic last weekend and found my old Spirograph set from the 80s. The box was beat up and a few gears were missing, so I figured it was trash. Out of curiosity I checked eBay and was floored to see complete sets going for over $200. Turns out the original 1960s and 80s versions are collector items now, especially if you have the ring gear and all the shape templates. I never would have guessed that something I used to draw wonky circles with would be worth that much. Makes me wonder what other old toys I threw away that might be sitting in someone else's garage. Anyone else find out a childhood toy is worth way more than you expected?
