Finally figured out the point of Etch A Sketch after 30 years

I was at my nephew's birthday party last Saturday and watched him shake his Etch A Sketch to erase it. That's when it hit me - I had been using the knobs to 'undo' lines by going back and forth for decades. How did I miss that the whole thing resets with a good shake?

Shaking it to reset is pretty common knowledge. I mean, you really never saw a kid do that on a car trip before?
