Hot take: I think the 2000s Laser Challenge set is way better than people give it credit for

I keep seeing folks on here trash the light-up targets as gimmicky, but after pulling mine out of storage in March, I found the sensor still worked after 20 years and the aiming actually teaches patience. Everyone talks about the Nerf guns from that era, but the precision challenge of this set is underrated. Has anyone else actually tried theirs recently, or are we just repeating what the collectors say?

The sensor surviving 20 years is definitely a flex, but calling it a "precision challenge" might be giving it a little too much credit. Those targets were forgiving on purpose, they just needed a solid direct hit, not some fine-tuned aim. Most of the fun came from the sound effects and the instant feedback, not from honing any real marksmanship. Maybe the collectors are harsh because they compare it to the heavier blasters of that time, but that doesn't make the set a training tool. It's a solid toy, for sure, just not some hidden gem for skill building.
