Hot take: Legos were better 20 years ago than the sets today

I used to spend hours building a castle from a random box of mixed bricks, no instructions needed. Now my nephew's sets are all branded themes with specific pieces you can't reuse. Is it just me or did the old freedom make them more fun?

My nephew has 47 different brick separators and still can't build anything without the app. Honestly @morgan.charlie you nailed it with that cooking vs recipe thing. Those numbered bags killed the whole point of dumping everything out and figuring it out yourself. Lego went from a creativity toy to a follow the numbers activity and nobody asked for that.

My nephew's "Lego" sets come with 47 steps and a separate bag for each tiny piece, feels like you're just following a recipe instead of cooking. It's the same with those meal kit services, they took the figuring out part away and called it an improvement.
