I finally found my old Teddy Ruxpin and it scared me silly

Last weekend I dug out my Teddy Ruxpin from the attic at my mom's house in Akron. I put fresh batteries in and popped in a tape, but the eyes flickered all wrong and the voice came out all garbled like a demon. My kid ran out of the room crying and honestly I almost threw the thing in the trash. Has anyone else had a nostalgic toy turn creepy on them like that?

Bruh, you resurrected a possessed animatronic bear and are surprised it went full exorcist on you? That's what you get for trusting 80s toy tech from an era when they thought lead paint was a good idea. Sounds like Teddy Ruxpin upgraded from storytelling to summoning spirits on that old tape. At least you got a funny story out of it, your kid will probably bring it up in therapy for years.

Used to think those old Teddy Ruxpin tapes were totally harmless, but man, you've changed my mind on that. The motors and servos in those things get all jacked up after thirty years, so the eye movements come out jerky and unnatural. Combine that with a warped tape stretching the audio and you get something straight out of a horror movie. No wonder your kid bolted, I probably would have too if I saw that thing twitching in the dark. Might be time to retire Teddy to a sealed box in the garage.
