I finally talked to my nephew about his old Game Boy Color

My nephew came over last weekend and saw my old Game Boy Color in a drawer. He picked it up and asked why the screen was so green and blurry. I told him that's just how we played games back in the 90s, you had to hold it at the right angle or sit under a lamp. He laughed and said it looked terrible compared to his phone games. But then I showed him Pokemon Crystal and he actually sat there for 20 minutes trying to catch a Pidgey. He said the game felt harder and more fun because you couldn't just look up everything online. Got me thinking my old toys still hold up, they just require more patience. Anybody else had a kid try their old handheld and actually enjoy it?

Wait Game Gear batteries lasted longer than that, like an hour maybe.

Did you notice how he didn't get frustrated and throw it down after failing a few times? My buddy's kid played his old Game Gear and the battery died in like 45 minutes, but instead of complaining he just went and grabbed some AA batteries and kept going. Kids today are so used to infinite lives and save points every two seconds, having to actually work for progress hits different. That Pidgey probably felt way better to catch than any Pokemon on his phone because he had to earn it with patience.
