I was a die-hard LEGO purist until my nephew proved me wrong
I always thought you had to follow the instructions exactly, no mixing sets, no building outside the box. But my 8-year-old nephew spent 3 hours last Saturday turning a pirate ship into a flying castle with random pieces from three different sets, and honestly it looked way cooler than anything I ever built. Has anyone else had a kid completely change how they see a toy?

That "flying castle" sounds insane. I let my niece loose on my classic space sets once and she made a moon base out of a police station and a boat. Now I buy bulk bins from garage sales just for her to tear apart. Instructions are for people with no imagination, kids get it.

@sageallen is out here running a custom LEGO factory out of garage sales, honestly respect that. Pretty sure the instructions are just suggestions anyway, my dog once "built" a spaceship by eating half a bucket of bricks and I still framed the picture.
