Just realized my old Lite-Brite still works after 30 years in a closet

I was cleaning out my mom's basement last weekend and found my Lite-Brite from 1993. Has anyone else tried their old light-up toys and found they still hold up?

Actually that's not quite right about all light-up toys from that era. The Lite-Brite used old school incandescent bulbs which are actually pretty durable if they aren't jostled around too much. Your mileage may vary though because those bulbs can burn out or get loose connections over time if the unit got knocked around in storage. The newer ones use LED lights which are way more efficient but honestly they don't have the same warm glow in my opinion. Just be careful plugging it in after all these years - check the cord for cracks first because the insulation on those old wires gets brittle.

You remember those old light-up spinners they used to sell at the county fair? I had one that lit up when you spun it, and I swear that thing still works after 25 years sitting in my garage. The batteries leaked all over the place but somehow the wiring held up. Makes me wonder how much stuff we throw away that could actually still work if we just checked the connections first. I bet your Lite-Brite has that nostalgic smell too when it heats up a bit, that old plastic and bulb combo.
