My mom told me my LEGO castles looked sloppy and I actually fixed them
For years I'd just snap together random bricks for my castle walls, no real pattern. My mom looked at one I built last month and said the gaps between the towers looked messy. She suggested I alternate 2x4 bricks with 2x2 ones to stagger the seams like real stonework. Tried it on a new build this weekend and the walls actually came out sturdy and detailed. I spent about 3 hours redoing my keep and it looks way more professional now. Has anyone else gotten picky feedback from a parent that made their builds better?

Oh man, that staggered seam trick is a game changer for sure! I started doing that with my modular buildings and now the walls don't look like they'll fall apart if you sneeze near them.

That staggered seam trick is one of those things that seems obvious once you see it but takes someone pointing it out. I had the same thing happen with my dad telling me my spaceship wings were too flimsy. He said to put a layer of plates underneath the big pieces to lock everything together. Now I always add a base plate layer even on small builds, it makes a huge difference in how solid things feel. Your mom was right about the walls looking more like actual stonework, and now you'll probably notice that detail on every official LEGO castle set too.
