My old Lite-Brite vs. the new light-up art panel I got my kid, the original still wins

Bought a cheap light-up tracing board for my daughter on Amazon for $15 and it flickers like crazy compared to the solid glow of the Lite-Brite I dug out of my parents' basement, has anyone else tried swapping pegs for pixels and regretted it?

Yeah I had the same issue with a tracing board for my nephew, swapping out the power adapter for a higher quality one from an old phone charger fixed the flickering right up. Sometimes it's just the cheap wall wart they include that's the problem.

And that just seems to be how everything is going now. Companies cut corners on simple stuff like power supplies just to save a buck, so the new version flickers and feels cheap. The old stuff was built to last, the new stuff is built to be replaced.
