Picked up my old Bionicle set last weekend and the joints were so brittle three arms snapped off before I could even build the thing.
I figured $15 at a garage sale for a complete Toa Mata Nui was a steal, but now I'm wondering if they were actually fun or just well-marketed because the plastic turned to dust after ten minutes of handling.

Man, you got a better deal than me - I paid $40 for a used Toa Lewa on eBay and the first time I clicked his arm into his torso, the socket just exploded like a firecracker. I swear those early Bionicle joints were designed by the same people who make those cheap holiday lights that stop working if you breathe on them wrong. At this point I'm convinced the real fun was just spending three hours hunting down the right color rubber band at the hardware store to hold the thing together.

Switched to using small zip ties instead of rubber bands. Drill a tiny hole through the broken socket and the arm piece, thread the zip tie through, and cinch it tight. Works way better than rubber bands and you don't have to worry about them snapping after a year. Took me a while to figure that out after my third Gali fell apart on me. Saved a few of my old masks from the trash that way too.
