Pro tip: I just found out I've been playing with my old Lego sets wrong for 20 years

I was helping my nephew build a Lego castle from my old collection last weekend. He was just snapping pieces together in a wild way, making a cool tower that looked nothing like the box picture. I kept trying to show him the 'right' way, following the instructions. Then he said, 'But your way is boring, Uncle Cole.' That hit me. I realized I spent my whole childhood just building the set once exactly as shown, then putting it on a shelf. I never just played with the pieces to make my own stuff. The fun wasn't in finishing the model, it was in the building. Now I'm digging out my old bins and just making weird spaceships. Has anyone else had a moment like this with an old toy where you realized you missed the point?

Wow, deep thoughts from a plastic brick.

Heard a podcast once about how even simple toys can spark complex ideas.

My five year old spent an hour yesterday having her LEGO figure "interview" for a job as a superhero. Idk, seems like that brick sparked a whole story.
