The day I had to choose between my T-Rex and my spaceship

Back in 1987 I was maybe 8 years old and my grandma gave me 20 bucks for my birthday. I went to the Kay-Bee Toys in the mall and I had to pick between this huge motorized T-Rex that roared and walked and this plastic spaceship with glow-in-the-dark stickers and a little astronaut figure. I stood there for like half an hour just sweating over the decision. Finally I grabbed the T-Rex because I figured dinosaurs are cooler than space. Got it home and the motor died after two days and it just sat there making a grinding noise. I still think about that spaceship sometimes. Has anyone else made a toy choice they regretted right away?

You ever stop to think how that spaceship might've actually ended up being the bigger letdown? I mean, a motorized T-Rex dying in two days is a bummer, but at least you got a cool hunk of plastic to stare at. A spaceship with glow-in-the-dark stickers? Those stickers stop glowing after a week, and then you're just stuck with a dull plastic tube and a tiny figure that can't do anything. The real regret might not be which toy you picked, but that you didn't save the twenty bucks for something that'd last longer, like a dozen comic books or a good set of Legos. Toys from back then were mostly junk, especially the battery-powered ones. You probably dodged a bullet if that spaceship had a cheap motor too.
