Tried my old Erector Set from 1999 and the bolts stripped like crazy
I dug out my old Erector Set from the 90s last weekend, the one with the metal beams and tiny screws. I wanted to build a little crane like I used to when I was 10, but the bolts kept stripping after just a few turns. The metal parts still looked fine, but the threads on the screws were all worn down and I think the plastic connector pieces got brittle over time. I remember those sets being really tough back then, but after trying to tighten just 6 bolts, I had two that wouldn't catch at all. It kind of bummed me out because I was hoping to show my nephew how cool it was. Has anyone else had old metal construction sets fall apart on them, or did I just store mine badly in the attic?

...and here I am with my 1999 set and the screws are basically just smooth little metal sticks now. I got two turns out of one before it just... gave up and started spinning. My nephew watched me try to tighten it and asked if I was building a "broken toy." Kid didn't even give me a chance to explain. I think I stored mine in the garage too, but not damp, just hot. That plastic definitely got crispy though, one of the connector pieces snapped in half when I tried to click it on. Guess I'm not the only one whose childhood toys are falling apart faster than I am.
