Unpopular opinion: my old Lite-Brite from 1989 is still more fun than any app on my phone
Found my Lite-Brite in a box at my mom's place in Toledo 3 weeks ago and plugged it in expecting 10 minutes of nostalgia. Ended up sitting on the floor for 2 hours making a dumb rocket ship while my phone buzzed face down on the carpet. The pegs are a pain in the fingers and I lost like 6 of them over the decades, but something about the glow in a dark room beat every game I have downloaded. My kid watched me for 5 minutes and then asked to try, and she got hooked too. Only bad part is the paper templates are gone and printer paper doesn't hold the pegs right. Does anyone know where to get the old black refill sheets, or am I stuck tracing on cardboard forever?
The "dumb rocket ship" part got me because that's exactly what I made too. I dug mine out of my parents' garage a few years back and the template thing drove me nuts until I figured out that dark cardstock works way better than printer paper. The pegs actually stay put and you can still see the picture since the light shines through the holes. Black construction paper folded in half is even better because it blocks more light around the edges. You can find the old refill packs on eBay sometimes but people want real money for them now, so the cardstock trick is what I still use.
