Why does nobody mention how bad those plastic army men smell when they get old?

I dug out a box from 1995 last month and the smell hit me like a wall, those cheap figures have this weird musty plastic odor that never goes away. Am I the only one who noticed this or did I just store them wrong?

You really think that smell is part of the charm? I gotta disagree, man. I left a bunch of my old army men in a hot garage for like 15 years and now they have this weird sour chemical smell that makes my eyes water. Tried washing a few of them off with soap and water but the smell stuck around, so it's not just dust or dirt. Honestly it's kinda gross, I ended up tossing most of mine.

Always figured it was just part of the charm, but you're right, that smell really is something else once they get a couple decades on them.
