Finally got my building's landlord to add bike parking after 8 months of asking
I live in a 12 unit building in Portland and I've been pushing my landlord to add a bike rack out front since last winter. Every time I'd email he'd say he'd 'look into it' and nothing would happen. Last week I snapped a photo of like 8 bikes chained to the same street sign and sent it with a link to the city's free bike parking program that covers installation costs. He replied in 2 hours saying he'd do it. They poured concrete for a corral rack yesterday. Feels like a tiny victory but honestly if every apartment building added just 4 spots it would make a huge difference. Anyone else had luck getting their landlord to do something simple for the environment?

Did the city program cover 100% of the installation cost or just a chunk of it? I'm wondering because I've seen a few landlords around here in Seattle get spooked by the liability of having a rack installed even when it's free. Did you have to sign anything promising not to hold him responsible if somebody's bike gets stolen or damaged?
