Found out my 'energy efficient' habits were wasting power the whole time

I always unplugged my phone charger and stuff thinking it saved electricity, but last week my electric bill showed my smart TV alone used $14 in standby mode over 3 months. Am I right to focus on vampire drain, or is that small stuff a distraction from bigger changes like insulation?

Wait, you're telling me my phone charger guilt trips were for nothing?

Yeah, I was in the same boat @abbychen. I read somewhere that a lot of modern stuff like smart TVs are actually designed to use power for updates and voice listening even when they're "off". I found out my cable box alone was pulling like 30 watts just sitting there. That $14 for your TV is real, and it adds up fast across all your devices, but insulation is probably the bigger target if your bill is mostly from heating or cooling.
